Students Drive the Future Shell Eco-marathon

From the classroom to the racetrack, the Shell Eco-marathon ignites 78 Students’ innovation to shed light on sustainable mobility

Lombok, Indonesia, welcomes the 78 student teams to compete in the Shell Eco-marathon. Competitors across Asia and the Middle East built the most energy-efficient vehicle. These vehicles are a future-ready technology backed up by sustainable transportation purposes.

The Philippines is well-represented with seven teams – Cardinal One, Eco Archers, Hygears, XU Mekan-Eco, Team Kasalag, Team Siklab, and UMindanao Wildcats – showcasing their engineering prowess and innovative designs. These students are tackling two vehicle categories:

  • Prototype: Think lightweight, three-wheeled machines built for ultimate fuel economy.
  • Urban Concept: Imagine road-worthy, super-efficient versions of everyday cars.

The teams choose their weapon – battery, hydrogen fuel cell, or good old internal combustion – and then it’s on! They compete to see whose creation goes the farthest on the least amount of fuel.

This year’s Shell Eco-marathon isn’t just about the race. Alongside the competition, students can explore workshops and programs that focus on:

  • Launching their clean energy businesses (Shell LiveWIRE)
  • Developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills (Shell NXplorers)
  • Empowering themselves for future careers (Shell Indonesia Women’s Network)

The Shell Eco-marathon is more than a competition; it’s a breeding ground for the next generation of innovators who will shape a sustainable future.
