An Unforgettable Batangas Coastal Expedition: Delving into Scenic Routes and Historical Landmarks with HERO’s Xpulse 200 4V & Xoom 110.
The promise of adventure and allure of Batangas’ scenic road fueled motorcyclists to join #BatangasLoop. A moto-tourism event by Loop.ph, that put together efforts with Batangas LGU, Philippine Motorcycle Tourism, Motorclyde Training Center, and partners. Lifestyle On Wheels is thrilled for this two-day event for another safe ride journey activity that will test the mettle of the Hero Xpulse 200 4V and Hero Xoom 110.

These two new bikes from Hero MotoCorp will be our trusted companion to explore the culture, history, and the bountiful beauty of Batangas, keeping us to enjoy our lifestyle on wheels on two wheels.

Kickstarting the Adventure: Manila to Sto. Tomas
Our adventure began with a ride from the bustling streets of Manila to the event venue in Sto. Tomas, Batangas. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a vibrant atmosphere. Brand exhibits showcasing the latest accessories, safety gear, and an array of food stalls. What’s frenzy is riders gathered for a ride exhibition and test ride from the Motorclyde Training School instructors, keeping everyone revved up and ready to roll!

The stars of Batangas Loop – Xpulse 200 4V and Xoom 110
The HERO Xpulse 200 4V is an adventure motorcycle built for both on and off-road exploration. Its high-ground clearance, long-travel suspension, and a robust engine indicate that this is not just another adventure bike under 400cc. It has already won numerous performance races in other countries and it is bound to conquer records in the Philippines. On the other hand, a sporty scooter that is fresh, dynamic, and perfect for navigating city streets with capability on cruising along coastal roads is the HERO Xoom 110. It might be too small to ride along with big displacement bikes, but it can kick up the pace on local towns’ busy streets. It is designed for riders who prioritize comfort, and practicality.

DAY 01: Historical Trails and Coastal Charm
Uncovering Sto. Tomas’s Hidden Hero
Kicking off the first day of the #BatangasLoop is at the J.P. Laurel highway in front of the NDN Grand Hotel. Few kilometers away is the first #StopOver Destination, Malvar Shrine, the legendary landmark of Sto. Tomas, besides the scenic Mt. Makiling and Mt. Malipunyo.

General Malvar stood strong during the Philippine-American War (1902) and we, patriots of motorcycling and moto-tourism, should often salute and visit this site to remind us that it’s not in Malvar, Batangas that our hero was born but in Sto. Tomas Batangas. It was often a misconception due to town naming, lack of awareness, and geographical location.

The Bañadero Baywalk’s Exclusive Shoe-Shaped View
Approximately 11 km away (20mins) is the famous Tanauan Baywalk or known to be the Bañadero Baywalk (2nd #StopOver destination) where tourists and locals spend time to walk, view up close the Taal Volcano, and to simply enjoy the water (spanish word that means “bathing area”). Besides the volcano, Talon Island (or Shoe Island) is a striking sight, its perfect shoe-like shape visible only from this spot.

The ride was a smooth, easy warm-up, allowing us to familiarize ourselves with the bikes. A slow-paced ride is manageable to the Xpulse’s ground clearance of 220 mm and a 823 mm seat height to a 5’5’’ rider. And a breeze control to Xoom 110’s 770 mm seat height and 155 mm ground clearance to any rider that can comfortably seat on it.
Fantasy World: The Ghost of a Philippine Disneyland
An hour and a half from Tanauan Baywalk going to Lemery is the majestic Fantasy World. A theme park targeted to be the Philippine version of “Disneyland” was never completed due to financial issues. But the neighboring village homeowners association continues to manage its operation as one of the #StopOver sights in Lemery. The ride along the coastal road was refreshing, with the cool breeze and stunning vistas making it a truly enjoyable experience.

The ride up to the view deck was a bit more challenging, with winding roads and inclines, a perfect test for the Xpulse 200’s off-road capabilities that you can lean-in, lean-with, and lean-out safely at a controlled pace. The Xoom 110 is responsibly agile enough and is a walk in a park. Both have the ideal weight, 159 kg and 108 kg respectively, that resonates to an enjoyable curved-road ride.

Cape Santiago Lighthouse: Built from the Earth’s Secrets
We continued our journey and for a few minutes, away (51km) is the Town Plaza of Calatagan. Archeologically, antique pottery is what Calatagan is known for. But for tourists like us, Calatagan is best remembered for its coastal beaches and the famous Cape Santiago Lighthouse. The lighthouse, when constructed, was made of brick and lime cement due to its richness in lime materials in the area (source of antique pottery).

Saint Martin of Tours: A Spiritual Giant in the Heart of Asia
Our next stop was the equally historic Taal Town Plaza in Taal Batangas. The town is known to be closest to the Taal Volcano (Talisay is the closest mainland), is famous for the craftsmanship of Taaleños – Balisong and Piña Barong. But #BatangasLoop-ers get an uplcose visit to the Asia’s biggest, Minor Basilica and Parish of Saint Martin of Tours. The ride through Taal’s narrow streets was a delightful experience, showcasing Xpulse 200 4V’s maneuverability even at the height of 1320 mm, length of 2222 mm, and a width: 862 mm. Not to mention, the Xoom 110’s 1881 mm length, 730 mm width, and 1118 mm height are perfect for this.

The Diver’s Launchpad to Batangas’ Underwater Wonders
The sun is about to set and approximately 17kms is the Anilao Port in Mabini, Batangas. This destination is popular to divers and island hoppers since it’s the port entry to the famous islands – Sombrero Island, Maricaban Island, and Verde Island. This is a perfect spot for a unwind, enjoy the breathtaking view and rest while enjoying the beauty of nature alongside the charming looks of Xpulse 200 4V and Xoom 100. Take a look!

Platable diner ends the first day of the ride courtesy of the Hon. Rey Reyes (congressman) at the Mabini Town Plaza and an arranged rest stop accommodation at the Saltitude Dive & Beach Resort.

DAY 02: Coastal Curves and Mountain Majesty
It’s relaxing to start Day 02 of #BatangasLoop in Saltitude Dive & Beach Resort, Mabini. Good accommodation room, delicious food, and a beautiful seascape. Their friendly and accommodating staff will welcome you 24 hours a day if you want to try the 4.2 rating on Google Maps review.

Preparation for the ride started with a ride briefing conducted by Motorclyde Training Center coaches heading to the Batangas Provincial Capitol. It’s a 30-minute ride via Bauan – Mabini Rd and Palico – Balayan – Batangas Rd.

Unpacking and packing the bag and riding the necessary items is easy for both Xpulse 200 4V and Xoom 100. Although the Xpulse 200 4V has a built-in saddle bag bar, we did not utilize it since the Xoom 110 has an ample under seat (19.2 liter) and floor board space.
Gateway to the Dream Zone and Provincial Power
Batangas Provincial Capitol is a significant landmark of Batangas. It serves as the seat of the provincial government, where Gov. Hermilando Mandanas welcomed everyone at the Dream Zone. The event venue is also known as the Regina R. Mandanas Memorial DREAM Zone. A few meters on its right is the Museo Nina Marcela Mariño at Felipe Agoncillo. It houses artifacts and history related to Mariño and Agoncillo’s life, work, and the history of the Philippine Revolution.

The “Mother of All Asia – Tower of Peace”
We headed towards the Monte Maria International Pilgrimage and Conference Center, which is a road distance of approximately 21.3 kilometers. If you’re in a car, it will take you around 48 minutes, but in a motorcycle (Xpulse 200 4V and Xoom 110 ), it will take approximately half an hour. Time stops at your liking when you’re enjoying the ride. The Xpulse’s seats support sit bones, tailbones, and buttock muscles that are suitable for both long and short rides. Xoom 110’s seats look thin but amply support bones and buttocks well.

The awe-inspiring site of the Monte Maria statue is a major symbol of Catholic faith prominent to Marian devotees. It also showcases Filipino artistry and craftsmanship, particularly in the design concept of the statue and structures within the complex.
Unwavering Light: Malabrigo’s Silent Watch Through War and Peace
Heading towards Lobo, Batangas is a 32 km ride of coastal roads, scenic view, and unwinding curves with variable paved and unpaved roads. The front 90/90-21 M/C 54S tires coupled with 120/80-18 M/C 62S on the rear of the HERO Xpulse 200 4V aced this flawlessly. While the HERO Xoom 110 has only 90/90-12 54J front tires and a rear tire of 100/80-12 56L, it deals it fleetingly as well.

The iconic Malabrigo lighthouse is a national landmark that stands tall against the backdrop of the ocean. It was strategically built in the area where the dangerous rocky coastline and strong currents posed significant threats to seafarers. Since Spanish times until now, the Malabrigo lighthouse is in full operation serving the Philippine Coast Guard’s purpose for navigation. It is safe to say that it has witnessed historical events, including the Philippine-American War and World War II.
A Symphony of Experience
A quick stop at the famous Imelda’s Garden, famous for its view of Batangas in 360 degrees, offered a moment of serenity. It’s a steep climb from the town of Cuenca, Batangas, where the Xpulse 200 4V and Xoom 110 deliver the capability of the engine on uphill. Downhill for a quick meal at the famous Luis Bakery for delicious delicacies, is also a breeze. Xpulse 200 4V’s petal disc brake (front: 276 mm rear: 220 mm) handles it well. Same goes with Xoom 110’s front 90mm disc and drum Brake of 130mm. We then made a quick visit to Bali Hiraya in Lipa City for a quick escape to witness a serene resort that offers a glimpse of tropical paradise.

The journey continued to Balete Baywalk in Balete, Batangas. This is a famous spot for tourists and locals alike for a quick rendezvous of lake viewing while appreciating the sunset to a gloomy night. This is a modern addition to Balete’s recreation and tourism. This exciting experience gave us an adventure before heading back to NDN Grand Hotel for the concluding program.

The Batangas Loop with HERO’s Xpulse 200 4V and Xoom 110 was a resounding success, a testament to the bikes’ capabilities and the allure of Batangas’ scenic roads. We left with memories that will last a lifetime, and a renewed appreciation for keeping us to enjoy our lifestyle on wheels on two-wheels.
