Benelli Motobi 200 EVO

Benelli motorcycles bringing motorcycles closer to passionate riders

When Benelli motorcycles debuted in the Philippines through Makina Moto Show last June of 2019, three leisure bikes made an astounding presence of what Benelli is all about. All of which are powered with 500cc liquid-cooled engines with fuel-injected DOHC 8-valve motors.

Benelli is an Italian brand, probably the oldest motorcycle manufacturer in Italy, that made history in association with World War I, fixing parts for the Italian machines.

The Motobi was introduced as Moto ‘B’ Pesaro or B200 back then. It was intended for commercial use carrying the Benelli trademark steel frame design fitted for motorcycle culture booming during the late 1940s. Modernized by Qianjiang, the current manufacturer of the brand, focuses on a cheaper low to mid-range segment bringing Benelli motorcycles closer to passionate riders.

OVERVIEW

The standard cruiser style of the Benelli Motobi 200 Evo leans towards more on the urban jungle riding. The blacked-out instrument console stubbed exhaust tip, and body frame instead of chrome get a distinct look that projects more on its character rather than its flair. Just looking at it, is often mistaken as a big bike.

The engine is powered by a 179cc single-cylinder, the fuel-injected motor with a five-speed gearbox that is enough for riding both in the city and side-city long rides.

THE RIDE EXPERIENCE

The Benelli Motobi 200 Evo has standard front telescopic forks and a twin-shock absorber at the back, making the ride less bumpy for a cruiser.

Both disc brakes responded well in combined stop and go scenarios. Cornering is stable on sudden stop granting that it doesn’t have an anti-lock braking system.

A 156kg weight might be heavy for a 200cc bike but it compensates well when at its highway speed (claimed 120 kph max speed). At high-revs, the steel-body frame handles the vibration well. On traffic, a typical gear-shifting is felt, which is roughly loved by cruiser fanatics.

The 17-inch and 15-inch alloy wheels (front and back) come standard, enough to negotiate potholes and quick turns in the metro. The 11.8 liters fuel tank capacity is just right for on and off traffic with a combination of weekend-long trips.

THE VERDICT

The Benelli Motobi 200 Evo is not just your typical entry-level motorcycle cruiser. This is actually your steel-horse daily ride with a rich history that you can bring anywhere. It has a true form of a cruiser character that is not re-created, re-brand, and re-design for a cheap commute. It brings the motorcycle closer to passionate riders.

THE VALUE

Benelli Motobi 200 Evo now comes in solid Matte Silver, Red, Matte Black, and Green shades valued at Php 120,000.
