Burgman Street 125 flatten the mountains

The Suzuki Burgman Street 125 is marketed as your affordable maxi-scoot, but does its affordability dictate its performance?

The Suzuki Burgman was frequently asked when a sudden boom in Maxiscooter demand hit the Philippines. Then came a clamor for the same feature but in a smaller package for a mix-ride, all-purpose use. This is where the Burgman Street 125 came in. It is known as an affordable maxi-scooter built for practicality. But does this affordability and practicality mean rock-bottom in quality, feature, and built?

We put the Suzuki Burgman 125 into an AllOutRide level trip for our MoTourism commitment for the Tourism Promotions Board Philippines’ Philippine Motorcycle Tourism. Here is what we come across so far.

Last November 2021 jumped off the Southern Luzon Loop for the Mototourism promotion amidst pandemic. This two-day event is organized by the Breakfast Ride Community with simultaneous two-leg travel. Both the Rizal-Laguna Leg and the Cavite-Batangas Leg are interesting.

We opted for the Rizal-Laguna Leg. This option will conclude our venture to enjoy the trip and come upon the versatility of our chosen bike.

THE MAXI SCOOTER YOU CAN AFFORD

Our ride is the younger brother of the Burgman 400 and Burgman 200. Introduced as Burgman Street 125, it has a fuel-injected 125cc engine. With its 53.50 Km/L record, indeed, the 370 km Rizal-Laguna Leg is fuel-saving.

Its 21-liter under-seat compartment and front hook definitely fits the gear for the entire trip. In addition, the 2-liter lidded glove box helps a lot for a quick grab of items necessary for the ride. Moreover, its USB charging features work well for us to charge the action cam, cellphone, and other gadgets.

From the starting point at Luneta Park, Manila all the way to the Antipolo Cathedral is a breeze. Manila traffic is not a problem.

With its maximum speed of 104.6 kph, it has good acceleration following the ride-formation with big displacement bikes until the Daranak Falls of Tanay.

It is nimble and agile with the help of its wheel-tire combination of 90/90-12 in front and 90/100-10 at the rear. Now that made sense why its 10-inch wheels perfectly fit the bike.

Regardless of its acceleration, climbing power is in a deep challenge. From its flat starting point all the way up to its highest mountains elevation of 6,142 ft of Lucban, Quezon. Can a maxi-scoot build for street cope on this?

CONQUERING THE MOUNTAINS

As its name suggests, burg comes from the word “berg,” which means “hill,” or “mountain.” To clarify, this is not from Suzuki, nevertheless, we put this idea during our road test. Climbing the hilltop of Pililia, Rizal to Lusiana, Laguna with cold and drizzle weather conditions is really a test.

For more than 4 hours of elevated riding, Lucban, Quezon is the highest point with more than six thousand feet. Traversing towns of Rizal at continuous climbing space, indeed, the Burgman Street 125 blends well even on mountain curves of the highway.

STRAIGHT REV DOWN THE HIGHWAY

From the Steep climb, it’s time to make consistent high-rev riding. The Eco-Tourism Road going to Laiya is more than 54 km of non-stop highway ride. And the Burgman Street 125 delivers with flying colors at a constant speed of 95 kph. No wobbling due to air drag. Its body frame aerodynamically receives this type of situation.

THE UNTAPPED SANCTUARY OF DOLORES, QUEZON

As a commitment, we support tourist destinations by not just visiting them. We savor and experience more of what’s in the area. Local food, delicacies, and majestic places are ready to unwrap.

The road to the Bangkok Kahoy in Dolores, Quezon is not friendly. Only 4×4 or dual-sport bikes can handle such unpaved tracks. Regardless, the Burgman Streets handles them well. Suspension bounces well and its ground clearance is enough to shoulder it.

In spite of this, the place is a sanctuary. Bikers, campers, and nature-lovers visit here. The view is breathtaking from afar.

We are proud that the Suzuki Burgman Street 125 completed the Rizal-Laguna Leg flawlessly alongside big displacement bikes.
