Becoming an accredited Philippine Motorcycle Tourism Specialist isn’t just about riding—it’s about turning a passion for the open road into an official role promoting the country.
Ask any rider what made them fall in love with motorcycling beyond the daily slog of metro traffic, and you’ll usually hear the same story. It almost always begins with a quick, spontaneous escape to the outskirts of Manila—maybe a Sunday breakfast run to Tagaytay, a winding ride through Tanay, or a quick coffee stop in Laguna to clear your head and grab good food.
Before you know it, that curiosity takes over. Those brief weekend runs turn into multi-day road trips across mountain passes, overnight moto-camping trips, or booking resort stays in coastal towns just to stretch the experience a bit longer. Naturally, we snap photos, shoot video clips, and post the whole journey online. Without even realizing it, a lot of riders end up turning their passion into content creation—building genuine career paths centered around a true Lifestyle On Wheels.
Seeing how many riders are actively exploring the country on two wheels, Philippine Motorcycle Tourism (PMT)—supported by the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) and the Department of Tourism (DOT)—saw an opportunity to take things further. What if these passionate, road-tested riders could be officially trained and accredited as legitimate tour guides recognized by DOT?

That vision gave birth to the Philippine Motorcycle Tourism Specialist program.
Why Philippine Motorcycle Tourism Hits Different on Two Wheels
Sure, guided tour buses have their place, and driving a private car gets you to major spots comfortably. Group Club rides may be on cue, but touring on a motorcycle is a completely different animal.
Because the Philippines is an archipelago made up of distinct regions and islands, riding through it lets you feel the temperature shifts, catch the smell of sea air or pine trees, and interact with local communities up close. Traveling on two wheels gives you a double dose of excitement: the pure adrenaline of navigating the road, paired with an even bigger reward when you finally pull up to your destination.
It’s a lot like eating a proper bowl of local Halo-Halo. The real fun isn’t just staring at the halo-halo when it lands on your table; it’s the hands-on experience of mixing all those delicious ingredients into the shaved ice yourself before taking that first spoonful. Motorcycle touring works the same way—the ride itself is just as satisfying as the arrival.

Professionalizing the Passion: The Philippine Motorcycle Tourism Specialist Phase One Training
To help passionate touring riders leap to official DOT-recognized Tourism Specialists, PMT rolled out a specialized training program. Spearheaded by the Breakfast Ride Community alongside the team at MotorClyde Training Center (MTC), the initiative officially kicked off its first leg.
Our team at Lifestyle On Wheels was fortunate enough to get invited to join this very first batch of trainees.

A Peek Inside the 4-Day Training
Phase One was a dense, four-day weekend intensive designed to sharpen fundamental riding mechanics, build mental discipline, and level up everyone’s road intelligence for navigating Philippine traffic.
- Vehicle Control & Emergency Reaction: Practical drills focused on low-speed maneuvers, precision balance, hard braking, and quick-thinking approaches when dealing with unexpected road hazards or rough pavement.
- Road Psychology & Traffic Behavior: Good riding is as much mental as it is physical. It’s not just about how well you handle a bike—it’s about knowing how people actually drive on local roads. We talked a lot about keeping your cool when you’re exhausted, managing road frustration, and learning how to read tiny body language cues from other motorists so you can dodge trouble before it happens.
- Road Leadership & Group Captainship: Leading a tour requires composure and clear communication. We trained heavily on road leadership, standard hand signals, proper road etiquette, motorcycle hauling, and the responsibilities that come with keeping a group formation safe and organized.
- Tactical Ride Planning: Through classroom discussions and group workshops, we built real-time ride plans and learned how to keep itineraries running on schedule despite real-world delays.
- Real-World Application: The final two days took us out on the open road. We took everything we learned out onto the open road—practicing formation strategies, organizing actual stopovers, and taking turns as ride leader to see what it really takes to keep a group safe in real-world traffic.

Just the Beginning
Surviving the physical, technical, and mental demands of Phase One was a huge milestone, but it’s only step one.
Passing Phase One is just the start. To get fully accredited as official Motorcycle Tourism Specialists, our batch moves on to Phase Two next—where we’ll be diving deep into local history, regional heritage, geography, and the unique culture of every stop along the way.

The end goal is simple: take our collective passion for riding and back it up with top-tier safety skills, rich local knowledge, and genuine Filipino hospitality.
