XSR155 – Commuter Version of XSR900

Yamaha XSR 155 has a character, style, and the attitude of its bigger brother that you can use for the daily grind.

When Yamaha Philippines release the XSR 900cc, We are curious enough that this bike should have a commuter version. And yes it did! Yamaha XSR 155 finally came and it will be a huge consideration to buy since it already has a character, style, and the attitude of its bigger brother that you can use for the daily grind.

RUNDOWN

From afar, you cannot identify the difference between the XSR900 and XSR155.  Even its size, its pretty close. The 900cc, as expected, has a larger fuel capacity and higher seat height. Just don’t look a bit closer at its engine and tire width and you’ll get a second look of a difference.

The headlights and dashboard are noticeable too. Both XSR series have bolt-on and bolt-off features for your customization. That gives you the XSR 155 somewhat a sketch-model or a blank canvass for adding personal touch and character of your own. It comes in Garage Metal and Tech Black shades. Over-all it gives you all the necessary details.

BLUEPRINT

Yamaha XSR 155 shares the same engine of the MT 15 powered by a liquid-cooled 155cc 4-stroke single overhead cam engine that burst a 19.3 horsepower, enough to power up your daily needs. It has an upside-down suspension fork that has been known to be more responsive to bumpy uneven terrain and a single mono-shock at the back that add-up a finesse-sport look. Reliable front-disc brake on both wheels.

The fuel tank has a 10-liter capacity capable to roam you around city blocks and even go cross-country with its average consumption of 49km per liter. Not bad huh. Front tires are at 110 x 70 and 140 x 70 at the back. Nice dual-purpose tires by the way.

ROLL-DOWN

For a 5’5’’ rider, seating on its saddle may position you a little bit tip-toed but manageable during stop and go cruising. The seating position may feel like on a neutral stance but not on an aggressive stance either. Its a balance of both that makes it more of a commuter-friendly ride. Foot-pegs is somewhat a little bit positioned behind that makes your legs grip more on your tank. That adds control while riding right? The tank is wrapped in a bulky-looking plastic adding more character from its big brother but counters the weight to make it lighter and friendlier for daily use.

During the roll-down, you may ask for additional power because you may think you are riding a big displacement bike and it really looks and feels like you are riding one but in a lighter and more nimble in tight corners. Shifting is smooth due to its slipper-clutch which makes it easier to handle during traffic. Over-all its fun to ride for commuting and a sub-beginner ride for a more character XSR 900 bike.
