The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is in the full effort to help and manage traffic through building new roads and bridges, the BUILD BUILD BUILD program continues. The motorist in Metro Manila already contributes to the heavy traffic and also the vehicles that pass through from North to South and vis-a-vis. Here are the five projects that are expected to ease up traffic congestion in Metro Manila and will be in operation within a year.
Alabang Sucat Skyway Extension (Northbound)
Travel time from the Skyway mainline toll plaza in Sucat, Paranaque to Susana Heights in SLEX will soon be reduced by around 50%. The three (3)-lane Skyway Extension connecting the elevated Skyway to South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) through the Alabang Viaduct will soon serve the motorist this second quarter of the year and will soon have faster trips.
Strengthening Works of Quezon Bridge in Manila
To further utilize heavy trucks plying to and from Manila to nearby ports, retrofitting of the 256-meter Quezon Bridge will be implemented by the DPWH NCR Construction Division within 120 calendar days. Started last 2019, this project aims to strengthen the structure that was previously sustained damages from a 2014 fire.
Katipunan Avenue Extension Project
The project will soon cater to the increasing demand for the alternate routes from Katipunan to Barangay Batasan Hills and towards the Province of Rizal to ease the traffic situation at Katipunan and Commonwealth Avenues in Quezon City. The 3.38-kilometer bridge is expected to complete this year.
Binondo Intramuros Bridge
Now at 50 percent complete, the Binondo Intramuros Bridge is targeted for opening this last quarter of the year. The arch bridge design symbolizes the friendship between China and the Philippines and will become a new iconic landscape in the area. This 680 lineal meter will connect the District of Intramuros at Solana Street and Riverside Drive and the District of Binondo at Rentas Street/Plaza Del Conde Street and Muelle Dela Industria.
Bridge Connecting Makati-Mandaluyong
The existing Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge, also known as the Rockwell Bridge, is 78.5 percent complete to expansion. Targeted into a two-way, four-lane bridge, is expected to improve 50,000 vehicles that move between the two (2) highly urbanized cities of Mandaluyong and Makati City.
