Adventure in the Cordilleras Day 1

A FRESH AROMA IN EVERY CORNER

The team started the journey at exactly 8:00 AM at the Ritz Legarda Lobby, a three-star hotel that offers informal lodging with well-presented rooms, a bar & a casual BBQ eatery with a terrace.

Conveniently located near convenient stores and a 15 mins walk to Burnham Park, Ritz Legarda Hotel brings a practical and affordable yet modern feel of accommodation as if you were at home. Visit the lobby food area and experience breakfast and taste the famous “Longganiza” and “Tapa” served in a simple nice plating with matching hot coffee or tea and you are all set to stroll nearby parks and “pasalubong” stalls.

Enjoy staying at their spacious deluxe rooms with complete room facilities and bathroom amenities at reasonable rates. You can find your way to Ritz Legarda Hotel at 33 Legarda Rd, Baguio, 2600 Benguet.

The weather was unpredictable but the team pushed through without hesitation. As calculated, arrival to the next checkpoint destination was almost two hours. The 39.6 km of Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road was manageable and it was already 9:42 AM when the team reached the view deck of Ambuklao dam in Bokod, Benguet.

GOOD WAY TO START HEADING ON-GRID – Ambuklao Dam Checkpoint

Ambuklao Dam has been irrigating water supply in the north since it was constructed way back in the 1950s. The livelihood of nearby residents has been sustained through farming and electricity to facilitate such needs. The view from afar has been astonishing and water from as high as 423 feet falling on cemented waterways is something to look at. It can supply 105 Megawatts to nearby towns and cities of Benguet Province, Northern Luzon, and Baguio City that come from the streams of Agno River.

Considered now as a prime destination to go to, as a relaxing side trip and serenity spot to be with nature. A few selfie shots from the view deck and some picturesque shots of cloudy skies, mountainous ranges, and beautiful lakes as a memento and then the team went ahead to the next checkpoint destination, Petron Aritao.

KING’S CONQUEST TO THE STEEP SLOPES – Petron Aritao Checkpoint

The road to Aritao has been known as one of the hardest roads to travel both for 2 wheels and 4 wheels. It has countless blind curves and steep slopes unimaginably reached and enjoyed by many riders. The team experienced the same excitement as they conquered the 74 kilometer Nueva Vizcaya road before reaching the Municipality of Aritao. “Our King” as what locals described its name means, Aritao has a rich history of brave leaders who resisted Spanish conquest of their territories back then.

Getting around town has many means of transportation, including buses, public utility jeepneys, tricycles, and van or car rental services. Petron gas station, where the team should look into is one of the “tambayans” and meet-up places before going through the curved roads of the mountains. It is also a terminal station of buses for passengers to refresh and grab a bite for quick meals.

Three hours and twenty minutes travel from the fuel station was an approximately 122 km ride to Banaue. The road was getting interesting as the weather started to work against the team.
