Yamaha celebrates WGP 60th Anniversary

Yamaha Motor Philippines, Inc. celebrates the global milestone of the company of 60 years of racing excellence in the WGP.

The World Grand Prix is what the MotoGP has known for decades. And Yamaha has been in this prestigious race since 1961 delivering passion and excellence. The spirit for racing further inspired Yamaha and made terrific countless victories.

It was Yamaha’s first race ever 10 days after its founding at the third Mount Fuji Ascent Race on July 10, 1955. Moreover, it was Yamaha’s newly released YA-1 model that dominated the scene. Let us reminisce about the victorious events and celebrate the WGP 60th Anniversary with Yamaha.

  • 1958 – Yamaha raced in the Catalin GP International racing in the United
  • 1961 – Yamaha entered the Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix round at the Grand Prix of France in May.
  • 1963 – Yamaha had its first GP win in the Belgian Grand Prix, racing an RD56 in the 250cc class.
  • 1964 – Yamaha won their first Rider and Constructor titles with Phil Read’s 250cc class win.

As announced last February 2021, Yamaha will continue to compete in the MotoGP for another five years (2022–2026). This will showcase the true spirit of racing and its high-performance machines. True enough, the dedication proved in the recent 2021 MotoGP World Championship with Fabio “El Diablo” Quartararo. Yamaha took the title-winning championship victoriously.

With this unwavering passion for racing between 1963 and 2020, Yamaha has a total of 511. In celebration, Yamaha Motor Philippines has a special WGP 60th Anniversary Edition. The Sniper 155R and Mio Aerox S embody its racing spirit carrying the iconic White and Red Livery. The colors that made an appearance in WorldSBK in Catalunya, Spain.
