The 400 hectare was ones the hiding place of the locals to escape from the Japanese military during the war times to protect their family from dangers. It has become their place of serenity. Historically owned by the Ortegas, It will be developed in such a way that the traces and roots of it will remain.

Collaboration between the locals, consumers, and the government of La Union plays a vital role to make a vision become a reality. Enhancing and extending this vision, the concept of mountain-resort was born. A perfect sight with an ambiance of both tourism and a green city exists. With this, a smart city-living follows.

Be able to bring in the technology of sustainable power without transmission lines, coal or diesel-powered plants. In the future, La Union will become the pioneer of Smart Green City that the Philippines is targeting for a renewable and sustainable living.
Mr. Joey Ortega, the founder of Don Joaquin Smart City, welcomed partners, guests, and future owners. He imagined the future possibility of the Smart City as the haven of green and high-tech city living.
This will be possible with the helping hand of SunSmart Solar Technologies, Inc. to power up the entire city; Sunrich Housing of Korea to provide modular houses; San Benito Development Corp to make the city feasible; Miss Earth contestants and candidates to promote the tourism of La Union; and Gov. “Pacoy” R. Ortega and the government of La Union.
