Honda Brio RS: Zipping from City to Countryside with a Sporty Edge

The Honda Brio RS recently took us on a delightful adventure, navigating the urban sprawl of Metro Manila before stretching its legs on the scenic Tagaytay roads. We even squeezed in a final stop at Bridgetowne Destination Estate in Pasig to see how this subcompact hatchback handled a varied itinerary.

City Confidence and a Sporty Upgrade

The Brio RS thrived in the tight confines of the city. It’s small stature and sharp turning radius made weaving through traffic and finding parking spots a cinch. The steering offered a commendable balance between maneuverability and stability, keeping us feeling in control at all speeds.

While it shares the same platform and engine (a punchy 1.2-liter, four-cylinder) with the standard Brio, the RS wears its sporty intentions on its sleeve. Compared to the base model, the RS boasts a more aggressive exterior with a glossy black front grille featuring the RS emblem, unique bumpers, side skirts, and a tailgate spoiler with an LED stop lamp. The RS also gets larger 15-inch alloy wheels with an RS design for a more planted look.

Power Up the Tagaytay Hills

The 1.2-liter engine, despite its size, surprised us with its power. It tackled inclines and highway commutes with ease, providing a smooth and responsive ride throughout the journey. This enjoyable power came with the bonus of impressive fuel efficiency, making the Brio RS a great choice for those who want a car that performs well on both city commutes and highway drives.

Comfort and Tech with a Touch of Sport

The seats offered decent support for long drives, a welcome feature for extended journeys. While the infotainment system wasn’t overloaded with features, it provided all the essentials – music, navigation, and Bluetooth connectivity – keeping us entertained on the road. The interior gets a subtle sporty touch with orange accents on the door handles and throughout the black fabric seats.

Cargo Considerations

Being a subcompact hatchback, the Brio RS does have limitations in cargo space. Our weekend getaway for two fit comfortably, but larger families or those with bulkier gear might find it a bit cramped.

The Final Verdict

The Honda Brio RS emerges as a compelling choice for city dwellers who crave occasional escapes to the countryside and appreciate a touch of sportiness. It offers a winning combination of performance, fuel efficiency, and maneuverability, making it adept at navigating city streets and conquering highway commutes. While cargo space might be a concern for some, its affordability, sporty upgrades, and efficient engine make it a strong contender in the subcompact hatchback segment.

Bridgetowne Tip: If Bridgetowne is your final destination, keep in mind that parking might be limited, especially during peak hours. Thankfully, the Brio RS’ compact size will be an advantage in such situations.
