Revving Up Green Wheels: Toyota’s Mangrove Mission Fuels Coastal Communities, Climate Resilience, and Sustainable Lifestyle on Two‑Year Journey for all

Revving up sustainability, Toyota Motor Philippines’ TMP Foundation hit the coastal road of Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, swapping tires for mangrove seedlings. A convoy of 110 volunteers, from university students to fishermen, planted 1,750 native Lapis‑lapis and Arinaya saplings, kick‑starting a two‑year, two‑hectare green wave. The initiative blends eco‑driving culture with community stewardship, offering a rolling lesson in climate resilience while providing income for a people’s organization. It’s a road‑trip for the planet, proving that every journey can truly seed change.

Coastal Ecosystem Rehabilitation
The NGP site is a mangrove forest that has degraded over time due to human activities, leading to the loss of mangroves vital for the ecosystem and the livelihoods of the local community.

According to the DENR – CENRO Bangui, mangrove planting contributes to disaster risk reduction, strengthens coastal protection, and supports the growth of marine life, which ultimately helps sustain coastal fisheries. Mangroves also help mitigate climate change by having a high capacity to absorb carbon dioxide, contributing to carbon neutrality.
