The invitation dropped into our inbox. It promised an exclusive media ride to put the All-New Yamaha NMAX Tech MAX to the ultimate test. This unforgettable event, held from March 26-28, 2025, showcased the highlight of Yamaha’s groundbreaking Y-ECVT (Yamaha Electronic Continuously Variable Transmission). This is a feature usually reserved for bigger-displacement bikes. Now making its debut in the scooter segment. Our mission: ride from RevZone Cabanatuan to the cool confines of Baguio Country Club.
And to experience first-hand the two distinct riding modes, T-mode and S-mode, on the way. For us at Lifestyle On Wheels, though, this wasn’t just a technical evaluation; it was a unique MoTourism adventure. It allows us to delve further into the culture and beauty of the places we traverse. We were not expecting that this journey would redefine what a scooter is. It changed our perspective both on the road and as a vehicle for exploration.
A Refreshing Thrill from RevZone Cabanatuan
Setting off from RevZone Cabanatuan, the energy was palpable. The sun was bright and the air a little bit warm. As the miles melted away, the rush of the wind and the ride took over. The heat became a distant memory. Our initial impression of the NMAX Tech MAX was immediately drawn to its fresh, modern aesthetics. The redesigned headlight and tailgate gave it a bold, head-turner appearance, hinting at the advanced technology housed within. It looked like a premium package. And we couldn’t wait to see if its performance matched its striking looks.

The true star of the show was undoubtedly the Y-ECVT. On long, straight highway stretches, the NMAX Tech MAX delivered the familiar, comforting scooter ride. But it all changes during the overtakes and climbs that the Y-ECVT truly flexed its muscles. The Y-ECVT made its most remarkable contribution, in our opinion, on the winding, curved highways. These are the very places where accidents often occur. The NMAX Tech MAX responded with incredible precision. The engine seamlessly carries the overall load while negotiating intense curves. Braking became a seldom-used necessity, proving its ability to maintain control and momentum, significantly enhancing safety.
Two Bikes in One: T-mode vs. S-Mode
The ability to switch between T-Mode (Touring) and S-Mode (Sport) on the fly was a mind-blowing experience. T-Mode suits well on a long and relaxing revving. It makes highway cruising incredibly effortless and comfortable as well. It’s the mode you would choose when you just want to soak in the scenery and enjoy a leisurely ride.
But shifting into S-Mode? That’s when the NMAX Tech MAX transformed. We immediately felt the engine’s character change, shifting from a relaxed demeanor to an aggressive, active speed. It was like riding two completely different bikes in one. This offers incredible versatility. It can go serenely touring and spirited riding on a swift. This seamless transition was a highlight. It allows us to adapt to different road conditions and our riding mood instantly.
A MoTourism Journey: The Challenging, Yet Comforting Road to Baguio
Our route posed its own set of challenges. This was especially true for the stretch from Aritao to Baguio City. It featured long winding (blind) curves and varying unexpected inclines. Yet, every twist and turn was met with the NMAX Tech MAX‘s comforting ride and the ever-present, relaxing views. The challenge became an enjoyable part of the journey, making the arrival in Baguio all the more rewarding. This was more than just a test of the bike’s capabilities. It was a genuine MoTourism experience. We connected with landscapes and local charm along the way up to Baguio City.

Balete Pass Grill: Our first significant stop wasn’t just for a quick bite. It was a moment of reflection on the historical significance of Balete Pass (Dalton Pass). This site, marked in Philippine history, reminds the sacrifices made during World War II. It was a chance to refuel both ourselves and our bikes, soaking in the quiet reverence of the place.
Kayapa Municipal Hall: We had a brief but meaningful pause at Kayapa Municipal Hall. It allowed us to acknowledge our journey through Nueva Vizcaya. The province is known for its vibrant agricultural landscape and cool climate. It was a snapshot of local governance and community life, a simple yet authentic touch to our ride.
Lolo Cancio’s Resto & Cafe: As we climbed higher, Lolo Cancio’s offered more than just refreshment. This local eatery provided a taste of regional cuisine and a chance to interact with eh local ambiance. These stops were ideal for stretching our legs. They allowed us to share stories and immerse ourselves in the character of each community we passed through.
Ambuklao Dam (View Deck): Before our final, exciting push to Baguio, we paused to admire the breathtaking vistas. Ambuklao Dam provided an unforgettable backdrop for the ride. Overlooking the vast expanse of the Ambuklao Dam and the surrounding Cordillera mountain ranges was not only a scenic visit. It was an experience filled with awe. It connected us deeply with the natural grandeur of the Philippines. It truly highlighted how the NMAX Tech MAX seamlessly carried us through such majestic terrain, making every ascent enjoyable.

We arrived at the Baguio Country Club and were met with a delightful surprise. The cool climate was a welcome respite from the ride. We also received an outstanding welcome from Yamaha Motor Philippines. We were given time to relax and compose ourselves before the evening’s festivities.
The program began with a sumptuous dinner set in a beautiful garden, creating a perfect atmosphere for camaraderie. The highlight was the official introduction of the All-New Yamaha NMAX Tech MAX. This was followed by powerful testimonials from renowned personalities in both the media and the influencer sphere. The night concluded with a social gathering. Everyone had the opportunity to interact with Yamaha’s key figures. Participants shared collective excitement about the NMAX Tech MAX‘s groundbreaking capabilities.
